During my personal morning yoga and reflection practice this weekend, I took a moment to contemplate how my journey has unfolded over time. I vividly recall the early days when my practice was driven by the desire to 'get my body back' after the birth of my children—an intention that now makes me smile with self-awareness and cringe somewhat. Maybe it was the promise of physical transformation that led to you trying yoga too?

Back then, I sought something convenient, equipment-free, and adaptable to my role as a parent. That's when I stumbled upon a yoga book and a trusty video—no DVDs or online streaming in sight. These became my steadfast companions, though I often found the poses daunting, never imagining I'd ‘master’ a few of them.

As I reflect on those beginnings, I realise my initial focus was on the physical prowess and aesthetics —to emulate the graceful forms depicted in my resources. But through the years, my understanding of yoga has deepened profoundly. It's no longer about achieving a perfect pose; it's about the journey itself. What does that actually mean you ask?  It's about the dedication on the mat, the humility in facing challenges, the resilience forged through practice, and the compassion and acceptance cultivated within. Yoga, I've come to learn, is a mirror reflecting our inner landscape—a constant exploration of self-awareness, growth, and self-love.

The essence of yoga lies not in perfecting poses but in the transformative process they catalyse. It's about showing up for ourselves, forming empowering habits, and finding ourselves. On and off the mat, yoga becomes a guiding light, nudging us to step beyond our comfort zones and embrace our authentic selves, letting go of other people’s expectations and following our heart.

Maya Angelou's words resonate deeply: "I long, as does every human being, to be at home where I find myself." My deepest wish for you, dear friend, is to feel that sense of 'home' within your own being—with every breath, every movement, and every thought. May you navigate life's ebbs and flows with grace, compassion, and profound self-love.

May I offer you this  Affirmation to Illuminate Your Day:
"I choose joy in every moment. My heart overflows with gratitude, and I embrace the beauty of life with open arms." Repeat daily, embracing its power, and let it infuse your days with radiant positivity.

I understand that for many reasons (time, energy and financial) you may not be able to attend yoga as often as you’d like yet you understand that the more you practice the more you will benefit.  That is why I created a new Morning Ritual Program based on short, simple yet effective daily movement and meditation practices for you to begin your day feeling uplifted and inspired.  As I teach to many ages and levels I have tried to create a program that caters to most levels, giving numerous options for each of the seven days.

If an uplifting, short, simple and effective start to your day sounds helpful you can check it out here.
